Night Auditor's EP, Drugz, is a psychedelic gem that represents the band's first professionally recorded and mastered offering. Produced by Chris Schlarb at Big EGO studios in Long Beach, CA, Drugz shows a shift in the band's aesthetic, from a more lo-fi self-produced, modern-funk style rich with analog synthesizers and drum machines to an
impeccably produced, timelessly soulful, and gritty sound with sexy saxophone arrangements, crisp guitars, brazen drums, a booming low end via the legendary Prophet 6 synth, and a narcotic vocal performance by Night Auditor's eccentric front-man/composer Hilal Omar Al
Jamal. Drugz is a follow-up to the band's debut EP, Drugzdilla, released in 2015 by Folktale Records. Drugz follows the same psychedelic trajectory as Drugzdilla, with influences ranging from Curtis Mayfield and Frank Zappa to Mike Patton and Prince, but with a greater sonic and instrumental sophistication both in terms of the concept and the execution of the record. The album artwork was illustrated by up-and-coming comic-book artist Kriss Stress.
